Travel support is available for people affiliated with the GCOE program.
This includes faculty members, Global COE post-doctoral fellows, fellows of the Graduate School of Science and JSPS PD, DC1 and DC2 fellows. Travel support will be provided for applicants who will participate in international conference by giving either oral or poster presentations.
In order for applicants who are faculty members to receive support, it is necessary that they present a plenary talk. One application is accepted for each person per academic year.

I.Criteria for Application

1.The international conference that is to be attended must meet all criteria listed below.
・The organizing committee consists of international members.
・There are at least 100 participants representing at least three different countries. (Exceptions are allowed in the case of oral presentations given by Ph.D. students. If this applies, please list detailed information concerning the conferences you are attending in order to determine your eligibility for support.)
・Non-international conferences, for example, the Annual Meeting of the American Astronomical Society - which is a domestic conference - are usually not recognized for support. However, under special circumstances, e.g., if the applicant is an invited speaker and if participation is regarded as an important contribution, support may be granted.
・Generally, the presented work must be published in the proceedings. Please include the following acknowledgement:
This work was supported by the Grant-in-Aid for the Global COE Program "The Next Generation of Physics, Spun from Universality and Emergence" from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan
Even if the text is changed to some extent, at least the name of the Global COE "The Next Generation of Physics, Spun from Universality and Emergence" must appear in the proceedings.
・Even in the case that your presented work is not to be published in the proceedings, you may receive support if any of the following applies:

a. Attendance at the conference is considered important,
b. It is a large conference with more than 200 participants,
c. The applicant is an invited sperker.,
d. Applicant’s presentation will appear on the conference website.

2.Method of presentation (indicate either A or B):
A:Oral presentation: Please attach the conference program or an e-mail from the organizing committee with information regarding your presentation. For a short oral presentation, such as a poster talk, the following criterion B must be met in order to receive travel.
B:Poster presentation: A publication closely related to the presentation (first author publication only) must have been published or must have been accepted for publication.
Please attach (a) the conference program or a corresponding e-mail with information regarding your presentation and (b) a related article of which you are listed as the first author. If the article is not yet published, please include (c) a letter of acceptance of this article from the journal in which it is to be published.

II.Information Concerning Support

1.Roundtrip airfare
Support for only a reasonably priced, economy ticket will be provided.
Departure from Kansai International Airport and arrival at the airport closest to the conference location is expected. For any exceptions, please explain in the Ryokoukagai. Airfare support is generally not provided for domestic conferences (e.g., the Annual Meeting of the American Astrophysics Society). However, in the case that the applicant is an invited speaker and participation is regarded as an important contribution, support may be provided.
2.Per diem during attendance at the conference
Faculty members will receive a per diem, including support for meals and lodging, in accordance with the travel support regulations.

The following applies to all other applicants:

* For major cities (Shiteitoshi) support of JPY 21,000 per night is provided.(This includes a meal allowance of JPY 5,000 + a lodging allowance of JPY 16,000.)
* For“Kou Ranking Cities” support of JPY 17,000 per night is provided. (This includes a meal allowance of JPY 4,000 + a lodging allowance of JPY 13,000.)
* For “Otsu Ranking Cities”, support of JPY13,500 per night is provided. (This includes a meal allowance of JPY 3,500 + a lodging allowance of JPY 10,000.)

No per diem is provided for domestic conferences (e.g., the Annual Meeting of the American Astrophysics Society). In the case that the applicant is an invited speaker and participation is regarded as an important contribution, support may be provided.

3.Conference registration fee can not be supported FY2012.

4.Visits to universities before and after the conference are allowed only if in each such visit, a talk whose content is in keeping with the mission of the Global COE program is given. An additional per diem up to a maximum of three days will be provided. Additionally, an invitation letter that explains the purpose of the visit must be submitted.

5.In case an additional conference with a similar program is attended, the applicant might be eligible for additional support if she/he is scheduled to give a presentation and if the dates of this secondary conference fall within or close to those of the primary conference (for which funding is requested).
(It is preferable that the proceedings for the secondary conference are also published. Generally, the per diem will only be provided for the duration of each of the conferences plus 1 day before and after.)

6.If during the trip, the applicant will spend three or more days for the purpose of activity that is not part of the GCOE program, the applicant is not eligible for travel support.

7. All costs must first be paid by the applicant. All support is then provided through reimbursement after the trip.
